Reason 23: Wages will Continue Falling until 2015

Real wages (i.e. after inflation) are falling and will continue to fall up to 2015 and probably beyond.

The EU Commission projects that inflation will erode people’s wages and living standards over the lifetime of this Government.  There is no mystery about this.  Continuing high unemployment will continue to force down wages in many sectors, while Government policies are undermining wage levels, such as their ‘reforms’ of the Joint Labour Committee.

Cutting unemployment and legislating for rights in the workplace (such as the right to collective bargaining) are two steps that can be taken to promote people’s living standards – as is joining a union.

Why should we march?  Because we can’t afford three years or more of falling living standards.
